From the 1870s Walter Crane started to create designs for Jeffrey & Co. He was an ardent Socialist involved in the creation of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society and the Art Workers' Guild. He remains perhaps best known for his illustrations of children's books.
The Victoria and Albert Museum was established to make works of art available to all, and to inspire British designers and manufacturers. Today the V&A's collections span over 5000 years of human creativity, and continue to intrigue, inspire and inform.
