Chinese Magpie Wallpaper
William Lakin Turner (1867-1936), England 1913.
This Chinoiserie style wallpaper was designed by William Turner in 1913. Eastern-influenced designs such as this often featured exotic blossoms and birds that were adapted to suit contemporary British tastes. The original hand-painted Chinese paper on which this design is based is held in the V&A's archive.
The Victoria and Albert Museum was established to make works of art available to all, and to inspire British designers and manufacturers. Today the V&A's collections span over 5000 years of human creativity, and continue to intrigue, inspire and inform.
This card features a vivid illustration of a Chinese Magpie in a flowering tree, and is blank inside for your own message.
